Can excision be performed to remove damaged skin measuring 5.5 inches long and 4.5 inches wide?

Can skin measuring 5.5 inches by 4.5 inches be removed from my upper-arm/ shoulder via excision? I have learned of "expanders" that plastic surgeons place beneath the skin and inflate with saline to stretch the skin. Would this enable me to have the area removed and if so what would the process include in detail, how long might the procedure take from having the expanders inserted until the complete removal?

Go to a plastic surgeon, preferably one that belongs to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons if you are in the US/Canada.





What will 'probably' happen is they would excise it in stages. I'm not sure how much expanders would help. The general rule of the thumb is if you do the excision all at once, the length of the excision has to be 2-3 times the diameter of the lesion you are excising....in other words, at least 9 inches in your case.





Go see a plastic surgeon to get the best options. If it is a tattoo, there may be options other than excision. If you live in NE Ohio, I know a good one.

A variety of procedures or tests can be performed to see if your eligible for skin grafting and/or expansion. It depends on the islets in your skin, as well as the 'health' of surrounding tissue.





For the most part, yes, it'll heal, though the bigger the wound, the uglier the scar. :/
Reply:Your best bet would be to ask a doctor,better yet ask your family doctor.he or she we'll be the one to ask and the one whom will refer you do the best Dermatologist they know!!! I could be off the right path with saying dermatologist.If so,still yet,ask your family doctor. Because in a situation like yours,Your family doctor will always know what's best for you!!!!!
